Monuments
Monuments are one of the temporary map objects. You will only find them in the Great Empire. Every month they reset and change their position on the map, which means you have to reoccupy them each time. These objects do not have their own castellan, this means that if you defend them, you defend with the castellan from the main castle. It also means that any troops placed in the monuments consume food/mead from the main castle.
It is also an alliance building, so whoever in the alliance owns the monument, the whole alliance gets a glory bonus from it. The bonus is not cumulative, so if you have multiple monuments in your alliance, only the bonus from the highest level monument counts.
By contributing resources, you can increase the level of the monument and therefore increase the bonus it will provide.
Laboratories
Just like monuments, they are temporary map objects. Laboratories can be found in all 4 basic kingdoms. Also you can only find them in Empire. E4K does not have them. As well as monuments, laboratories do not have a castellan, so they are also defended by a castellan assigned to the main castle, or in the case of kingdoms, castellans on castles in kingdoms.
It is also an alliance building, so whoever in the alliance owns the laboratory, the whole alliance gets a production bonus from it. The bonus is not cumulative, so if you have multiple laboratories in your alliance, only the bonus from the highest level laboratory counts.
By contributing resources, you can increase the level of the laboratories and therefore increase the bonus it will provide.
